When my father died in 1993 she was really stressed, and was complaining of back problems. So they did CAT scan & MRI, and said she had a slip disc so they did surgery. Shortly after she was battling with depression, numbness on the right side of her body. She went back to neurologist who conducted anther MRI, which he then determined she had MS. Soon after she began to walk with a cane 45-46yrs old, then a walker 47-48, and now has been in a wheel chair since 1998, she is only 60years old. you would think after having he disease so long she would have accepted it and would want to speak to others who have MS, nope not my mom, she gets upset and angry when I suggest doing some reading online to learn about her disease, she has no interest. She doesn't understand the computer anyway my sister & I have tried to explain/show how the web works, but all she does is email and play games. Her hands shake a lot so it is hard for her to use a mouse. It is really hard to watch her get worse, and to be powerless over her disease. I turn it over to God daily, and ask how I can be of maximum help to her. We have established a relationship that we did not have before, which is truly the best gift out of this hard to handle disease. The disease affect everyone who has it uniquely there are common symptoms, but to my knowledge no one has the exact same and the drugs they do have also helps some and don't help others. Best of luck speaking with your mom. It makes me wonder if your Mom could have something similar going on. MS can never be diagnosed by symptoms alone. The symptoms of MS mimic a total of 30 other diseases and conditions. It takes a trained neurologist to diagnose MS and it may take him or her years to come to the conclusion that MS is present. There are 50 symptoms of MS not ten. A general practitioner or internist cannot diagnose MS. Your Mom's doctor would have to refer her to a neurologist if he cannot determine the cause of her symptoms. The neurologist will do an MRI should all other diseases be ruled out. Often the MRI will show no signs of MS and the test will have to be repeated if and when the patient has an attack that is indictive of MS. MS in general is relapsing remitting, meaning that the symptoms come and go. It is not unusual for the symptoms to disapear for as long as ten years.
